Bank's History

Gregorio P. Alano, a businessman, and his wife, Bienvenida T. Alano organized a group of visionaries in the municipality of Katipunan, Zamboanga Del Norte to open a rural bank that would cater to the financial needs of the municipality. On January 24, 1979, the birth of Rural Bank of Katipunan was authorized by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

The bank opened its doors to the public on January 29, 1979. Katipunan Bank consolidated with Plaza Rural Bank of Carcar, Cebu on May 01, 2008 and was renamed to Katipunan Bank (ZN), Inc., “A Rural Bank”. Similarly, when the bank consolidated with Rural Bank of Tagoloan, Inc. on January 22, 2016, it was renamed to Katipunan Bank Inc. “A Rural Bank”.

At the present time, Katipunan Bank has 17 branches and 16 microfinance banking offices across Visayas and Mindanao, with over 180,000 clients, 32,000 of whom are microfinance clients. Katipunan Bank is currently being led by its Chairman and President Mr. Higino T. Alano.  The members of the Board of Directors are Mrs. Bienvenida T. Alano, Emma Concepcion Z. Bastasa, Josefina M. Aguilar, Magdalena G. Eguia, and with its independent directors, Rogelio P. Yao and Dennis A. Monong.

Katipunan Bank is one of the few rural banks in the country with over 2 Billion pesos in resources. On April 01, 2012, Katipunan Bank partnered with Pioneer Life Inc., to provide clients with All-In-One Microinsurance protection.
